Fuel filter was filled before starting it almost ran chugged and stalled and will not start. I Worked the hand pump for quite a few cycles and bled the scrader valve, starts to fire and thats it.

Try re-filling the fuel filter again, and see what happens. Also, I don't know if the electronic navistar engines had them or not, but there is a filter that international refers to as a "Rock catcher" before the fuel filter housing. It is around It is a plastic spin-on deal, and it is meant to catch any big stuff before going into the fuel filter itself. Bascially, it is like a bowl on a carberator on a briggs and stratton.

A lot of times a code will point you in the right direction and give you a general idea what area of the engine to look at. In this case we just started to inspect the emission side of the engine beginning with the intake system and compressor side of the turbocharger.
The compressor wheel had a slight layer of soot build up but nothing severe. We used combustion cleaning spray to clean up the wheel and it really did the trick but the fumes were hard to take.
Doors open and fans on Another area was the boost and temperature sensors on the driver's side below the intake throttle and EGR valves. Both were fairly clean so the EGR which is surrounded constantly by hot exhaust gases was the next best choice.
The EGR funnels cooled exhaust gases into the intake which helps reduce harmful emissions called NOx oxides of nitrogen. It does not take much to remove the EGR because of the easy access but this one was tight. Using a bar we had to loosen the flange side to side and pry it out of the housing.
Once removed we saw that the valve was stuck open. This was definitely causing the lack of power bypassing exhaust directly to the intake. We could have used the valve after cleaning it up.
The main problem was the EGR throttle shaft hooked to the electric motor was sticking and it had to be loosened up. I didn't want to take any chances so I bought a new EGR from the dealer.
Surprisingly it was not that expensive Once replaced the horsepower was back. It was strange that there were no engine codes especially if the EGR was stuck in one position. The on board computer works with percentages when opening and closing the valves on the EGR so one would think that if the program that runs the engine noticed a wrong percentile it would flip a code.
Regardless of that the problem got repaired and everybody is happy. This is another experience that we can register in our brains for the next time.
If a Maxxforce DT diesel engine in our fleet experiences low power with no codes we will be pursuing the same areas we looked at for this fix. Totally acceptable but for the few or more who don't check the simple things first this is for you. I'm saying this with a smile on my face by the way. Recently I talked to one of the dealer techs and he told me about the soot build up that actually slows down turbo rpms causing a loss of power.
The main cause of this is a plugged up engine crankcase breather. A service kit is available for the MaxxForce DT diesel engines that allows mechanics to disassemble the low pressure and high pressure turbocharger on the compressor side intake and remove the soot buildup. One tip I caught wind of was to check the crankcase breather with a stethoscope you can hear the internal breather wheel turning after the engine is shut down.
This indicates the breather is still operational. The kit has o-rings and clamps along with a carb cleaner spray that helps to loosen the soot off of the compressor wheel. I recommend Kleen Flo which works great with a soft brush. Even an old tooth brush works. Once you see how bad the soot and carbon build up is you'll understand clearly why there is a loss of power.
This build up actually slows down the turbocharger and causes sluggish launches and poor performance under load with no codes showing up. The Photo below shows the soot build up before cleaning. Any kind of carb cleaner spray works well.Empressleaks ugandan leaked nude pics
Click on the photo to enlarge it to get a better idea how much of the soot collects on the compressor wheel. The turbo piping has to be removed from the compressor side along with the connections to the engine crankcase breather. Once the 2 housing are removed the clean up can be done easily. All of the piping has to be cleaned up as well. Find Trucking Jobs. Jan 17, 1. Hey guys I have a Dt Maxxforce engine that for the most part it starts just fine but sometimes it struggles to turn on. But doing a little reading I found that the injector "pucks" can leak and cause this problem. Is there a way to test to see which route to take or is it trial and error type of thing. I tried doing the air management test but it aborts due to an active fault code present ICP unable to build during cranking.
I did notice that when I run the standard test, after the rpms rise, that the desired oil pressure rises to about 4, but the actual pressure doesnt pass 2, psi.

First, make sure you have proper oil level. After that, you remove the high pressure line at the head, install a pressure gauge and crank to see if it makes psi or not. If it doesn't make full pressure, then it could be a pump or regulator. There are special tools for that that you use by removing the regulator and installing a block off tool to force oil at full pressure through the pump.

There's a series of tests required to determine why the knock sensor fault set. When the code goes active it will shut down the engine and prevent it from starting until the code is cleared. The reason the code set needs to be corrected before releasing the truck to the customer because it can set and shut down the truck at any time, even while driving.
Like it or not, this is something that needs to be taken to a dealer for proper diagnostics. Today i check this truck but it got same three code, turbo, injector, fan working normal. Do you think TOSS is fail or not? Highly unlikely the TOSS has failed or it would be all the time. I can't give any diagnostic info without knowing exactly what the code is.
Two different paths for diagnostics depending on the exact fault. You can start blindly throwing parts at it if you want but I doubt you'll fix it without doing the diagnostics. If you've cleared the codes to get it running and don't know the exact code, you will have to drive it until the code sets to find out exactly what the code is. Clearing the code will allow you to start the engine again but the codes are setting to prevent engine damage. I highly doubt the code will set with the engine idling all day long.
It needs to be driven. I drove one for an hour before it finally shut down on me. Finally i try to test this truck on road, after 10 km engine automatic shutdown and red light come on, dash show engine stop, i check code it has one active code: SPNFMI 18 knock detected, unexpected fueling without demand. Any SPN faults? Inspect piping for large amounts of oil. Is there a significant amount of oil present in the boost air piping? DT 466 E No Start. Air in fuel?
Still having a hard time starting randomly, even hot if I shut off it starts good sometimes. ICP pressure shows then jumps when starts. Fuel pressure shows 20,30, then up to max I saw was 65psi. I had two melted MAP sensors.

This truck has a very hard start warm, replace ipr which had blown tip. Still having a hot hard start. Unplug injector harness and icp sensor, and crank it over it should see around 1k oil pressure within few seconds. If i helped thanks and rep are appreciated.
Injector o-rings only seal fuel. The HP manifold o-rings are the most common cause for a no start hot however I have also seen bad o-rings in the pucks in the HP manifold.
There's a special hex tool required to remove the pucks but I was able to fabricate a tool that works. The pucks are disassembled with a snap ring. I have also had bad injectors. The top where the puck o-ring fits into gets cavitation wear.
This excessive wear, which is very minimal, will cause a hot oil leak even with new o-rings. Pucks or puck o-rings and injectors is the only thing in the HP oil system.
